Linen is a lovely, breathable fabric, but it can wrinkle easily and may require a bit of extra care to keep it looking its best. Here’s how to look after your linen garments:

  1. Read the Care Label: Always check the care instructions on the label for any specific recommendations.

  2. Washing:

    • Machine Wash: Linen can generally be washed in a washing machine, but use a gentle cycle with cold or lukewarm water to prevent shrinking.
    • Hand Wash: For delicate linen items, hand washing in cold water is a safer option.
  3. Use Mild Detergent: Opt for a mild, liquid detergent designed for delicate fabrics. Avoid bleach or harsh chemicals, as they can weaken the fibers.

  4. Avoid Overloading: Don’t overload your washing machine. Wash linen items separately or with similar fabrics to ensure they have enough space to move around and to prevent snagging.

  5. Rinse Thoroughly: Make sure to rinse thoroughly to remove all detergent, which can cause stiffness or residue on the fabric.

  6. Drying:

    • Air Dry: The best method is to air dry linen by laying it flat on a clean towel or hanging it up to dry. Avoid wringing or twisting the fabric, as this can distort its shape.
    • Tumble Dry: If you must use a dryer, choose a low heat setting and remove the item while it’s still slightly damp to reduce wrinkles.
  7. Ironing:

    • Iron While Damp: Iron linen while it is still slightly damp for the best results. Use a medium to high heat setting and steam to help smooth out wrinkles.
    • Press Cloth: Use a pressing cloth between the iron and the fabric to avoid direct heat, which can shine or scorch the linen.
  8. Storing: Store linen garments in a cool, dry place. Avoid using hangers for long-term storage, as this can cause stretching. Instead, fold the garments or use padded hangers if necessary.

By following these guidelines, you can keep your linen garments looking fresh and stylish.
